[Cataloguer's Toolbox] Inserting Errata Slips

Receiving staff in Acquisitions should insert errata slips that come with books as follows:

Errata slips correcting a single page should be placed adjacent to the relevant page. For recto pages, it should be placed immediately before the page. For verso pages, it should be placed immediately after the page. Acquisitions staff will make a note to alert the cataloguer to the presence of the errata slip.

Errata slips with corrections for more than one page must be placed immediately following the title page, even if the next page is blank. No note needs to be made for the cataloguer in this case.

A very narrow application of Glu-stick should be made to the back of the full length of the left-hand edge of the errata slip. The edge of the errata slip should be placed as close to the centre crease of the book as possible.

Occasionally, there are several errata slips accompanying a book. In cases such as this, it may be necessary to construct a simple pocket for them from an envelope. The pocket should then be to glued inside the back cover of the book.

If the receiving staff in Acquisitions overlook an errata slip and it is found at a later stage by a cataloguer, the cataloguer should insert the errata slip according to the previous instructions.

The cataloguers will add a local note to the bibliographic record indicating the presence of errata slips.
