Integration of large Government Document sets and monographic series
INTEGRATION OF THE SERIALS COLLECTION
Government Documents serials should be integrated on the fly.
INTEGRATION OF MONOGRAPHIC SERIES
Monographic series that are not or will not be classed under the same call number can be split between the Bookstacks and Gov Docs. However, monographic series that are to be kept together under one call number should remain together either in Gov Docs or the Bookstacks. Anything occupying 1 shelf or less can move right away as per this morning's meeting [with Carmel Power, Gary Tucker, Joy Tillotson, and Louise White]. Anything that takes more space we don't move but keep track of.
Book dummies should be placed in the government documents collection to inform patrons that a monographic series has been split between the two collections if the series is kept together in Gov Docs but split in the Bookstacks. (We will also be making book dummies for titles that are together in the bookstacks but the old ones have not moved yet.)
MULTI-VOLUME MONOGRAPHS
Multi-volume monographs should not be reclassified and relocated within Gov Docs if there is not adequate space in the Bookstacks. The location of LC classed material in the Government Documents collection will be too confusing for patrons and librarians.
Book dummies could be placed in the appropriate location in the Bookstacks to alert shifters to the need for space for a particular government document title. (I'll ask Carmel if this would be any help before we do it.)
