Oxyria digyna Hill; O. reniformis Hook. Perennial, about six inches. Acid flavour. Leaves about half inch. Flowers in clusters of about two or three on slender stalks.--Alpine plant. Europe, Mts. Britain, Asia, N. Amer., W. Nfld. Greek, oxus, acid.

Rumex Patientia L. Shining perennial, two to five feet. Lower leaves more than one foot long, on long stalks. Flowers densely whorled. Pedicels swollen joints.--Waste places. Naturalised N. Amer., Nfld. From Europe.--June.

WESTERN DOCK.

Rumex occidentalis Wats. Rather purplish perennial, two to three feet. Large flat, bluish-green leaves, slightly wavy margins. Lower ones nearly one foot. Flowers loosely whorled. Grain solitary.--Wet, sometimes brackish places, Alaska, Labrador, N. Amer. "The only indigenous dock of north-western Nfld." Edible.
